Glass Art Magazine
The spring issue will include an article discussing the inspiration for my new series of glass and mixed media wall installations. The article will highlight the first this series, titled Thornton Creek Watershed.
Here is an excerpt from the article:
I live in the Thornton Creek Watershed, a quiet corner of North Seattle. Each day before I head to the studio I spend time outside, paddle boarding the waterways, gardening, or walking the dog, but always observing the wildlife and landscape. It was making my way through this natural environment, and intentionally taking mental snapshots that inspired me to create the narrative installation Mini Habitat #1: The Thornton Creek Watershed. This watershed, nestled between the Salish Sea and Lake Washington, provides me a vital connection to the earth. Bald eagles, great blue herons, beavers, coyotes, songbirds, squirrels, and white-tailed rabbits are just a fraction of the inhabitants coexisting within our urban environment.
Large conifers, the green belt ravines, an abundance of parks, and many waterways emptying into nearby Lake Washington, all drew me to make this place home. Animals from this lush habitat have been a long-time focus of my inspiration. But rapid climate change and our impact on the environment have narrowed my attention on the natural spaces we all depend on. My new installation, Mini Habitat #1: The Thornton Creek Watershed celebrates the environment, the creatures, and the water that connects us all.
